• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.

Issue Smartermail disabled Domain problem and IDN Domains

sonics

Regular Pleskian
Hello

We have two problems with onyx 17 on windows and smartermailserver as a remote mailserver.

1. We would like to use smartermail server as a centralized mailserver togheter with Plesk onyx 17 for windows. the mailserver generally works but if we disable the mailfeature of a domain inside plesk it just disables it at smartermail. this is not really working if the domain has somewhere else the mailservice because smartermail what i think is wrong still tries to deliver the mail locally altough the maildomain is disabled for the destination domain. in older plesk versions plesk disabled it and also renamed it to domain.disabled because than it was working.

2. We can not write a mail via webmail to a IDN domain. it just says we have to give an receiver mail but its allready written. please make smartermail finally work with IDN domains.

regards chris

Can you please explain your scenario.
As I understand, mail service for one of domain is hosted somewhere outside of Plesk (and outside of SmarterMail). And when you have disabled mail service for that domain in Plesk, you want SmarterMail to deliver mail to external mail server instead of storing mail locally.
It looks like you need something like this:
https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2995/mark-a-domain-as-hosted-externally.aspx
And it will be good, if this can be configured directly from Plesk, right?

Hello all

@IgorG no thats not our case with IDN. we can not send a mail towards an external IDN domain from smartermail webmail from any domains.

@PavelV yes thats exactly the case. the problem is that plesk onyx 17 does only change the settings towards disabled when disable the mailfunction inside plesk and does not also set the attribut to "External (use MX record)". that would be great if that would be possible that plesk would set that and we do not have to do it manually.
older plesk like plesk 12.5 with local installed smartermail did set the domain as disabled and also renamed the domain from yourdomain.com towards yourdomain.com.disabled. that did also work.

best regards

Thank you for explanation,

We have plans to add such ability in Plesk.

older plesk like plesk 12.5 with local installed smartermail did set the domain as disabled and also renamed the domain from yourdomain.com towards yourdomain.com.disabled. that did also work.
We need to have both options - "disabled" mail domain (as it is now in 17.0), and "remote/external" mail domain. So this will be implemented as additional option for mail domain.
Historically, renaming of domain was workaround for old versions of SmarterMail when there was no ability to disable domains in SmarterMail API. This workaround had one side effect that mail was not delivered locally (which is good for your scenario).
