I am receiveing this error:

deferral: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)

in my /usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog file when trying to send any non-local mail on my new GoDaddy virtual dedicated server (Virtuozzo / Plesk 7.5).

I've searched high and low on google and forums but have been unable to come up with a solution. Apparently the error means:

The mail server did find out from the DNS where to send mail for otherisp.com, however it could not connect to that domain's mail server(s).

but I have no indication as to why it's not able to connect to the domain's mail server.

ANY help on this issue would be much appreciated. I've got over 3500 clients waiting for their confirmation e-mails

Hi,

did you try making a testconnection to the remote smtp server using telnet and port 25 ?

See if qmail is running or start qmail by:

#service qmail start
