• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

spamd error

Anyone who knows what causes this error:
spamd[19252]: bad protocol: header error: (closed before headers)

I've got it on my severs after upgrading to psa-7.5.4... the error occurs at the exact same time on both servers... but not like a cron job that runs each hour... but normally I get the error twice within one hour...

Haven't found much in the logfiles either :p

It is a message which tells you that when psa-spamassassin restarts spamd, spamd fails which means your spam filter is not working.

I am having the same issue right now, and so far I am having no luck finding a solution, any one have any other info which could help?

It appears that the psa-spamassain is not configured properly to restart the new SA3 daemon.

I see this error message when we enable Watchdog monitoring for the Spamassassin service - that is with Spamassassin v2.63.

Do you get this as well?

- Chris

We had installed Watchdog, but decided to remove the rpm as it was cuase many issues. However, now without watchdog intalled we are still unable to re-start psa-spamassassin via PLESK, we restart it from SSH with

# service psa-spamassassin restart

and it works.

You're not able to restart Spamassassin from within Plesk? Now that is strange... never seen that before. Did you report that to SWsoft as a bug?

RHN up2date released official support for Spamassassin 3.1 the other night so if you have any servers using up2date then watch out! Our RHES boxes ended up with Spamassassin 2.63 and 3.1 both installed at the same time.

- Chris

Thanks for the heads up, these are RHEL3 boxes, I will check for multiple versions of SA on them.
