TITLE

ß and ss in domain names treated as same domain spelling

PRODUCT, VERSION, OPERATING SYSTEM, ARCHITECTURE

Obsidian, latest MU, Centos 7.7

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

A very old problem seems to still not to be fixed: When a domain with an "ß" character exists on the server, it is not possible to create the same domain in the transcription spelling "ss".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Create a domain like

straße.de

Then try to add the transcription domain

strasse.de

ACTUAL RESULT

It fails, system reports that "strasse.de" already exists (although not strasse.de exists, but straße.de exists).

EXPECTED RESULT

These must be treated as different spellings. For one, an "ß" follows long vowels while "ss" follows short vowels, so there is natural difference in spelling (in German at least). Second, many customers who register the "ss" spelling also want the "ß" spelling, which is currently only posssible by directly typing in the ACE spelling for the domain.

ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This is a problem that I reported many years ago, but obviously it's never been taken care of :-(
