Tried updating from Plesk 8.2 to 8.6

I tried to update my plesk 8.2 using updater
and it looked like it didn't do anything.
I clicked install. it said it was installing.
But after that it seemed like nothing happened.
The 8.2 still seems to be running.
I know very little about using plesk.
I am going to move some websites over to this virtual private server eventually.
Right now nothing is being hosted there.
What are the benefits to updating? is it worth doing?
How do i go about it?

I suppose that upgrade failed by any reason. To verify it open log file (/tmp/autoinstaller3.log) and try to localize the cause of the problem
