unable to clone wordpress instance to a subdomain

I remember when i tried to clone a wordpress instance, i was able to create it at any target domain. i.e cloning a website to xxx.current-domain-at-server.com but now, i can not, i can only clone it subdomain of parent domain only. am i missing something?

I would love to clone at any domain of my choice.
