• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

upgrade 8.3.0 to 9.2 - a few questions.

Hiya, this post is likley to be long winded, but I am going to try and cover most things in the first post (hopfully)

My brother clicked the "Upgrade" button on his Plesk control panel yesterday and ended up borking the system, it is reporting it is running this version, (I have no idea what it WAS running)

[root@vps965 bin]# cat /usr/local/psa/version
8.3.0 FedoraCore 5 83080131.20

Virtuozzo, seems to be running fine, but if I go to any of the options in Plesk I get this error.

Service is not available now, probably your Plesk is misconfigured.
Contact Your provider for details.

He is of the opinion we should just wipe it and start again, but if it can be repaired it would save both he and I a lot of trouble, so I thought the first logical step is to do what he wanted to do in the first place and update to the latest build, see if that shakes the error and then go from there.

as you can tell I really dont like the idea of starting from scratch, its fine for him to say it, but muggings is the one who ends up doing it.

Ok to upgrade, I can either click upgrade in the control panel, cant do that because its borked (see above) or run the autoinstaller script in (/usr/local/psa/bin/autoinstaller), but thats not there!

Also will the licence be carried over by the upgrade, or am I going to end up crying and sulking.

So any idea's, I am stuck and really dont want to go through a full reinstall if I can help it.

Thanks in advance to anyone with any advice.

Lee.

Ok an update, I think I see what has happened here.

I think it has got quite a way through the plesk upgrade and for whatever reason failed.

If I check the version, you get what I see above.

If I try and run the installer for 9.2.3 it goes so far though, downloading the packages etc... and then fails with.

Starting installation of packages
Installing the package psa-9.2.3-fc5.build92091015.22.i586 (b 0x9068320 source=0x88a43a8 P:3656 R:96)
package psa-9.2.3-fc5.build92091015.22 is already installed
ERROR: Unable to install the requested packages because either there is
not enough free disk space left, or there are package dependency problems.
Warning! Not all packages were installed.

So I am guessing its got half 8.3.0 installed and half 9.2.3, so its don't half an upgrade (/??)

Is there a way to force the installer to install (ie rpm -iF)

I am not familiar with rpm, its been years since I used any rpm based build so I am not sure.

thanks in advance.

Or in addition as I am being moderated so cant edit.

Is there an easy way to backup ALL server settings and reinstall Plesk, then restore the server settings ?

I know how to do this is Virtualmin, but cant seem to work it out in Plesk.

If you have Plesk installed from Virtuozzo template to your VPS, I suggest you upgrade it also via Virtuozzo template method.
