Upgrade panel timing out after update 9.5.4

Hello,

I was looking at upgrading to 10 but wanted to upgrade to the latest packages of the current version first (Not sure if this was a good idea but it seemed it at the time)

I upgraded 9.5.4 to the latest version (we were already running 9.5.4 it was just updating applications + plesk)
I received an email saying all was successful and everything functions bar the update page.

When clicking the Update button on the homepage I now get a blank screen. (https://domain:8447/?secret=&locale=en-US)
I have read a few posts today on the matter but not got anywhere. 8447 is open as far as I am aware (netstat says it is listening) and auto installer is running.

Rerunning Auto installer gives me the message:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?><autoinstaller status="busy" error_message="Another instance of Parallels Products Installer is already running."><progress><stage stage="0" stage_n="4" id="init" title="Parallels Products Installer was started" /><step step="1" step_n="1" id="checking_comps_status" title="Detecting installed product components." /></progress></autoinstaller>

Hoping this is well known issue or I'm just being blonde
Thanks in advance,
Oliver

Hi oliver - Plesk runs on port 8443 - did you change it to 8447 or was that a typo?

if it says its running, try checking to see if the process is in fact running
# ps aux | grep autoinstaller | grep -v grep
root 680361 0.7 0.1 145936 4300 pts/2 S+ 13:26 0:00 /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller

If it is, wait for it to be done or kill it.

Hi Taheri

Thanks for the reply.

It was not a typo no, that is the page that is opened when I click the update button on the control panel. I haven't personally changed it and no one else here has administered it to change something like that I doubt. If the update page runs on 8443 by default that is very odd.

The auto installer processes running have "--disable-browser" on the end, that doesn't sounds right.
"root 22966 0.0 0.0 115848 15532 ? S 09:07 0:00 /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller --service-mode --enable-xml-output --ssl-cert /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/httpsd.pem --web-interface --with-ssl --disable-browser"

After killing the two processes (They had been running all night so I assumed timed out) and restarting it I get the same timing out webpage and the process
root 23170 0.0 0.0 173044 16004 pts/0 S 09:20 0:00 ./autoinstaller --service-mode=update --enable-xml-output --web-interface --with-ssl --disable-browser

Thanks again in advance
Oliver

I dont use 10.x but if memory serves that port you mentioned is the one that is used by the updater when attempting to open the updates page in the UI - but you mentioned that you hadnt yet updated to 10 and your posting in the 9.x forums - did you actually update to 10.x?

If so, can you try using the bootstrapper (check out the KB articles) to fix your install?

I have not updated to 10 at all no.
We can still login and use Plesk as normal where the version number on the dashboard is still 9.5.4.

But the Update link opens a page on port 8447. (The link stated in my original post)

What would be the location that I would normally go to to view the update page in 9.5.4?
Seems strange if noone else has experienced this if it wa something wrong in the update proceedure.

Bootstrapper? Is that worth researching if I am still on 9.5.4 or was it new to 10?

Thanks again.

In anything pre-10.x the updater opens in the same window inside the panel ( same 8443 port) - where as in 10 it opens in a new window in a new port. If you had a firewall allowing ports opened try turning it off and see if that helps any.

Right there is my issue then.

The update window opens in a new windows and with port 8447.

I've opened port 8447 and it still has an issue, after stopping Iptables it loads an update windows I've not seen before (I assume the version 10).

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 8447 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 8447 -j ACCEPT

To open them?

Well thanks a lot for the help.

Don't supose you have any idea why it is using the new update process, when I am still using plesk9 do you?

Oliver

Unfortunately I dont know - I dont have a lot of experience with 10 since we dont use it in my company but none of our 9.x servers do that.

This should be fine

-A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8443 -j ACCEPT
-A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8443 -j ACCEPT

Thanks for all your help, everything is working perfectly now (strange we have the version 10 upgrade window though ^_^ ).

[Solved]

My install is doing the same thing. I upgraded to the latest 9.5.whatever. I get the blank screen too. I guess I'll try your fix...

Plesk is really something else...I'm half-afraid to even look at the screen for fear of it breaking. *sigh*

Nope. I get the new window, but it's port 8443. I have two autoinstaller's running. I kill them both with kill -9 XXXX XXXX and two more pop right back up.

Anyway, here's the url of the popup:
https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8443/plesk/server/autoinstaller

*edit*
Also tried to kill autoinstaller and then restart plesk with:
/etc/init.d/psa stop
/etc/init.d/psa start

No love.

I've added port 8447 (even though it wasn't in the address in the address bar) and now I get the new window you are talking about! However, it's asking me to log in and it won't let me:

"Unable to log you in. Check whether you entered the right login name and password, and that the user account exists in the system."

I've tried the both the plesk admin login and even the servers ROOT login, but no dice! How did you log in?

Bleh! Nevermind! I restared lesk and it worked. Weird I tell ya, weird. Lot's of folk are going to have fun with that update! :(
