• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Webmail section on Plesk 8.2.1

Hi all,

We are running Plesk 8.2.1 on our Fedora dedicated server. We have a couple of domains, one live one, and we are wondering why we can't access webmail on our server. We have a mail.ourdomain.com and a couple of addresses. We can get mail from it if we log in to a generic webmail site, like

http://www.mail2web.com

Also, we can configure Outlook Express to download it fine. However, what do we need to do to have some sort of nice webmail access through our website? If we go to

http://mail.domain.com/

We get a

Server Default page

If you see this page it means:
1. hosting for this domain is not configured
or
2. there's no such domain registered in Plesk

Under our domain.com properties in Plesk, if we go to DNS Settings, we have a bunch of DNS records, one of which is

"mail.domain.com" with value "A" and our IP address

However, on Subdomains, we have nothing. Do we need to enter a subdomain "mail.domain.com" here? And if so, what else do we need to do to enable simple webmail access there? Do we need to install some freeware webmail software?

Thanks

Normally it's webmail.<domain.tld>, as you can see in the file /etc/apache2/conf.d/zz*_psa_httpd.conf.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I should've mentioned before. In our zz*_psa_httpd.conf it indeed states:

DocumentRoot /usr/share/psa-horde/
Alias /horde/ /usr/share/psa-horde/
Alias /imp/ /usr/share/psa-horde/imp/
ServerName webmail
ServerAlias webmail.*
UseCanonicalName Off

However, whenever we try

webmail.ourdomain.com

in the browser, we get a 404, nothing there. Do we need to assign it specifically as a subdomain or what else?

Hi,

You do not need to assign anything.
By default , webmail can be accesse using webmail.domain.com.

Of course you have to check the dns.

Lets say you host the mail exchanger on that specific server.

Then webmail.domain should go to the same server. Mail should be activated for the domain, webmail also -- from plesk.

Basically you can access webmail for all of your domains on a specific server if you use full mailname for login(and that is allowed from plesk --- server/mail section)

Just experiment a bit:)
