  • Support for BIND DNS has been removed from Plesk for Windows due to security and maintenance risks.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS.

Question Why is there still no better built-in way for Remote Storage?

Plesk has had a long-standing limitation in that it only supports remote backups via FTP or FTPS. While FTPS is still a reasonably secure option, it becomes problematic due to the requirement for a dynamic passive port range. Most other hosting panels already support more robust and firewall-friendly methods like SSH, SFTP, or RSYNC for remote backups – which makes this limitation quite frustrating.

I’ve successfully set up an FTPS storage using Pangolin and TrueNAS Scale, since i only have an IPv6 connection with DS-Lite. No locked IPv4 possble. Since Pangolin doesn’t support port ranges, I manually exposed TCP port 21 and ports 5026 to 5030. With this setup, passive mode works perfectly with clients like WinSCP, MobaXterm, and even FileZilla. However, Plesk is unable to connect. The error shown is:

"Curl error: (18) Transferred a partial file: The last FTP request: LIST: The last FTP response: 425 Unable to build data connection: Operation not permitted"

So my question is:
Will Plesk eventually support remote backups over SSH/SFTP or even RSYNC without requiring a third-party extension or a paid backup solution?
Also, why doesn’t Plesk accept the passive port range that the FTPS server clearly provides? All other FTP clients seem to handle this just fine.

Thanks in advance, and I hope this can be improved in future versions – it would really make life easier for many users.
