  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Hello,

I have a server running Debian 10 with 64 GB of RAM.
On this server, only two domain names are configured and there are about 70 email accounts.

I followed the procedure to upgrade from Debian 10 to Debian 11.
No problems during the upgrade... But I spent over 5-6 hours on it.

Unpacking... unpacking... unpacking... for hours!

Why is it taking so long?

I pay for a service that provides me with an interface and some features. I've never spent so much time updating a site.

I'm very worried about updating another server that contains over 60 sites of varying sizes.

Why is it taking so long? Why is it lagging so much? I pay for five Plesk licenses through different resellers, and I'm really disappointed when I see how long it takes!

I've been managing servers for 15 years, and a dist-upgrade has never taken me so long!

The upgrade time isn't controllable by Plesk, as the bulk of the upgrade is Debian's own upgrade system. Plesk upgrade isn't done till near the end of the Debian upgrade.

Saying that, most upgrades I've done take up to an hour maximum.

Also, upgrade times are affected by numerous things, speed of connection both from yourself to server and server to internet. Also, CPU (quantity and speed), RAM and amount of available space/type of storage used (HDD/SSD/NVMe and RAID type. These are just some of the other factors that can affect upgrade speed/timings.
