wordpress installation guide on plesk

I am surprise there are no proper documentation on installing wordpress on plesk. Wordpress is the most installed blogging software and yet it's like nobody uses it with plesk. We have some clients using it on linux server but each plesk windows version will have problems installing wordpress.

We now have a new Windows 2008 with plesk 8.6 and a client can't get wordpress to install properly. From numerous sites, we found the installation to be straightforward but as with all plesk, software installation is not so straight forward.

http://mvolo.com/blogs/serverside/a...in-for-the-Wordpress-PHP-blogging-engine.aspx

Currently the wordpress is getting 500 Internal server error. When I delete the web.config file, I get 404 error. Any ideas? Any guide on installing wordpress for PLESK 8.6?

Wordpress last I checked as a php application, which means it doesnt need a web.config file - those are typically only for .Net applications.

For wordpress you would simply upload the files using FTP and then run the install.php file through a browser. This is assuming of course you have alraedy setup and configured a database and database user for the app to use during installation.

You can also use the application vault to install wordpress automatically for the user.

I don't understand the link, it points to plesk 9. Does this means I have to upgrade to plesk 9 to fix the problem? How bad is plesk 9 compared to 8.6? I do not want to upgrade to solve one problem then faced with tons of others.

I'm using WordPress for my site and I am having no problems.
Just FTP it to your httpdocs folder (or a sub folder)
Create the database and link it to Workpress in the normal way.

They you should be able to see it when you open your domain.tld

I am using 2 WordPress installations on the same domain with no problems.
1 is the main site and the second is the Blog section (domain.tld/blog)

In fact Plesk will create a sub domain called blog.domain.tld that will point to domain.tld/blog

Hi Alan,

I'm trying to install Wordpress on Plesk 8.6 and it's not working. I was reading your post and thought since you've done it, you might give me a clue of what's wrong. Here's what I've done:

1. Created a DB and username on Plesk
2. Changed the wp-config.php with DB name, Username and password
3. Created a subdomain called "blog" in Plesk
4. Copied all the files from unzipped "Wordpress" folder to:
mydomain / subdomains / blog / httpdocs folder

But when I go to blog.mydomain.com or mydomain/blog, I'll get a page not found error.

I've changed the DB name, tried different subdomain, and also changed the wordpress folder to blog and copied it to httpdocs at the root. But when I went to mydomain.com/blog it took me to the main site.

I appreciate all the help.

Thanks,

Armin

Hi Armin

Hope I can be of some help.

Once you have uploaded the wordpress files and setup your DB you then need to goto the install directory, in your case:
blog.mydomain.com/install or mydomain/blog/install

This will complete the installation and you should then be provided with an Admin password.
Make sure you right this down as you won't be provided with it again. You can change it when you get in.

I figured it out

Hi Alan,

My problem was DNS. I had changed my host and set my A record to point to our new host.
All I needed to do was adding another A record to forward blog.mydomain.com to the
same IP. It's funny that something this obvious doesn't hit you in the face sooner.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Wordpress auto installer cross-linking between sites

Hi ~

I just created Site 1 as a subscription and did an auto install of Wordpress. Everything went fine.

I went into the Admin Home Page and created a new subscription. At first, Wordpress was already installed - cross-linked to Site 1. Then, that disappeared. I was able to install a new WP application for Site 2.

I went into the Admin Home Page and created a new subscription. Immediately, Wordpress showed it was already installed - twice! When I click on the admin interface link, the first links to a 404 page on Site 1. The other links to the wp/admin of Site 2.

What's going on, and how do I stop this madness?

Thanks!

Hi Alan,
I am quite new to the Parallels Plesk and have a question. I have installed wordpress in the httpdocs folder. My domain also works fine under www.tdscoaching.be/wordpress. But how can I see my domain just under www.tdscoaching.be ?
I have read the wordpress faq and changed the blog folder in admin panel of wordpress to www.tdscoaching.be and copied the index.php with the changed path "require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php' );"
But still I see the master page and not my blog.
What am I missing?

Hope you can help me out!!

Thanks
