Question After update to 18.0.79 AWStats is still present, but change log says it was removed

Deprecated and Removed Items
(Plesk for Linux) AWStats has been removed from Plesk. GoAccess is now the default web statistics tool.

However, when in Hosting Settings, I still see a drop down list entry "AWStats (deprecated)".

The updated went through without warnings.

Two questions
a) Is it expected that AWStats remains selectable?
b) If a Plesk update removes AWStats, what are the consequences for the hosting settings? Will the selection be automatically updated to GoAccess where users still had AWStats before the update?

Hello,

> a) Is it expected that AWStats remains selectable?

Yes, if it is previously installed on the server. Starting from 18.0.79 you cannot install/remove the component using Plesk installer.

> b) if a Plesk update removes AWStats, what are the consequences for the hosting settings? Will the selection be automatically updated to GoAccess where users still had AWStats before the update?

At this moment, we don't have any plans to uninstall awstats during upgrade.

Adding the ability to remove (but not install) via the components GUI seems like it might hit those use cases where it was previously installed but there is a desire to remove it without going through a manual process.

@mizar Thank you for this hint. May I please ask more questions? Does the drop down box with the selection of available statistics packages react on that removal? Meaning that when AWStats is removed, the entry is also removed from the drop down box? Will another statistics package be auto-selected or what will the drop down box display? Will it display nothing/empty list item? Or even worse will it display another package name while that other statistics is not actually used in Plesk?

Based on my test, it does not remove it from the dropdown. Even though AWStats is removed, the drop down still displays AWStats Depricated.

Thank you for testing. This raises a concern how to remove it from the drop down box.
Totally agree.

I ran into this issue because a customer had 34 GB of stranded webstat files. I ended up deleting the files and then uninstalling AWStats following that knowledge base article.

The problem is that the customer still sees AWStats in the dropdown, which is confusing to them.

Hello,

> Does the drop down box with the selection of available statistics packages react on that removal?

Yes, AWstats should not be availiable in Hosting tabs after removal. If it still there, you can try to Reread in Tools and Settings -> Componetns to ensure that Plesk properly detect that it was removed

> Will another statistics package be auto-selected or what will the drop down box display?

No, it will be show something like "Select ..." or empty value. Note, interally it will be still awstats, but generation will be definitely failed

after uninstalling awstats the dropdown shows an empty value. i have migrated some servers to goaccess. via cli you can change the webstats tool for the hostings, but not for the service plans, so i have to change the value from empty value to goaccess for all service plans by hand. the migration is a bit rough, but it is doable.

But why `plesk bin servive_plan -u "My Plan" -webstat goaccess` didn't work?

Yes, AWstats should not be availiable in Hosting tabs after removal.

FWIW All good for us and everything is as per the above ^ (shortened for posting) from @mizar
Perhaps we were lucky, as we saw the original post by @Bitpalast BEFORE we manually upgraded all to 18.0.79
That allowed us to watch & wait a little, run post #5 in this thread and remove AWStats whilst still on 18.0.78 #4
No issues since (although yes, we're running a different OS @Bitpalast)
