Allow Email to be Relayed From a Trusted Remote Server

I have done some Google searching and searched this forum but cannot seem to find an answer to this problem.

Help from the collective wisdom of the forum would be appreciated.

My problem is outlined below:

I have a VPS that is running Plesk 7.5.4 on Fedora Core 2. This server is known as "vps.domain.com".

I have another server (apps.domain.com) that runs an application that needs to periodically send out email messages to users.

Each server is hosted in phyiscally different locations.

I have this application on "apps.domain.com" set up so that it uses "vps.domain.com" as the SMTP server to send its email messages.

If the recipient of the email message is a user on our domain (e.g. [email protected]) the email meesages get through. If on the other hand the recipient of the email is a user on some other domain.com (e.g. [email protected]) the messages are not delivered.

I am guessing that the SMTP server on "vps.domain.com" it configured to block messages that are being relayed from a remote server. This is good if the remote server is a spammer but not good if it is my trusted application on my trusted server.

What is the configuration change I need to make to tell "vps.domain.com" that it is OK to relay ANY email message that is sent from "apps.domain.com"?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Regards,
