  • Support for BIND DNS has been removed from Plesk for Windows due to security and maintenance risks.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS.

Can my Plesk PSA database be on a different machine?

Jeron Coolman

New Pleskian
We have two Windows Server 2012 R2 servers. One is running our SQL Server and the other is running IIS hosting our web site.

We have Plesk 12 installed on both machines. We have an instance of SQL Server running on the web server and its entire purpose is to host the PSA database for Plesk running on our web server.

We want to move that PSA database to the SQL Server machine, point the Plesk 12 on the IIS web server to it and get rid of SQL Server off of our Web Server.

Is this possible? We were told that EVERY machine that we run Plesk on HAS TO have SQL Server installed on it to host its PSA database. When I look at the database settings it looks like we should be able to give it the IP of another machine running SQL Server.

Can we do this?

It is impossible. psa database cannot be remote for Plesk server.

OK thanks for the info. I'll just remove Plesk from all of my IIS machines, because the SQL Server running just for Plesk is sucking up too many resources.
