  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Question Can you install a virtualization software from Plesk?

Hello everyone, we have a dedicated server running ubuntu 20.04 and plesk and I was wondering if you can install a virtualization software such as virtual box or kvm from plesk directly. In the past we've tried installing and updating packages from the command line directly and that has broke Plesk and I don't want that to happen again.

Thanks in advance :)
Kind regards

A kind of virtualization environment that Plesk can install is Docker. It's not really KVM or a true virtualization, but it is a container management.

For your update requirement: That's a typical issue for system administrators that you never know what comes out of an operating system update. There isn't really a perfect solution for this. Some administrators suggest to install a virtualization software like Virtuozzo in a server, but then only have one single instance in that virtualization software so that the whole container can be backed up and restored in case something goes wrong with an operating system update. But that configuration cannot be done after Plesk is already installed on a server.
