• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

Hi, when we start using a specified password for backups, instead of Plesk’s encryption key, will we be able to restore backups created before the change?
Thank you, Marc

The security password is primary used for encrypting users password further and does not affect the overall backups and only applies to when backups are stored locally. If the security key is lost due to, say, a failed server, then when importing in a backup would just general whole new passwords to the subscriptions and emails sent about it.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, doesn't matter if you change it or not, you can still restore without affecting much (other then possibly a password reset triggered if pulling from a backup before you've sent your own password).

If you're storing the backups remotely (on a FTP server, S3 bucket, Google Drive, whatever), then you'll want to enable some sort of encryption and/or password method on there.

You can read up on this further at Global Backup Settings
