CNAME Lookup Error with QMail

I'm having an interesting problem where mail delivery to certain domains, such as AOL.com are coming up with the following error in the maillog "CNAME lookup failed temporarily."

I am able to do a dig -t MX aol.com with a successful return.

I did some searching on the web and I'm finding many others with this problem seem to have their problems resolved by applying a certain QMail patch that allows DNS responses over 512 bytes. However a cursory search of this forum revealed this thread that seems to indicate this patch was applied to version 6 of Plesk.

AOL's DNS clearly isn't down because Dig resolves, and clearly I can see their DNS because, well, Dig resolves. So does anyone have any insight as to why QMail would give CName look up failures?

I recently upgraded the sever to 8.1.1 and the problems did not occur before this. I don't necessarily suspect this being the problem, but it's the only recent change that the server has had.

Thanks.

Bump. Anyone else having (or had) this problem, or am I all alone on this one?

hi,
you have find any solution? I have similar problem

Sadly no. There are many hundreds of links about this error on Google however the solution always seems to be to apply the qmail 1.03 DNS patch or to run djdns to cache DNS results. Supposedly the DNS patch was applied back in Plesk 6 and you cannot run any other DNS package other than BIND with Plesk.

I'm completely clueless on how to approach the problem specifically with Plesk. I hope someone on this forum has a suggestion.
