TITLE

Creating a customer account takes a long time / Fail2ban issue

PRODUCT, VERSION, OPERATING SYSTEM, ARCHITECTURE

Plesk Onyx Version 17.8.11 Update #81
Ubuntu 16/18

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Every time a new customer account is created, it can take several minutes for the account to be successfully created.

Error-Message:

The problem has already been identified. Fail2Ban has a problem with IPv6 addresses.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  • Create at least 50 dedicated IPv6 addresses
  • Create 500 blocked IPs @fail2ban
  • Assign the IP addresses to one account at a time (I'm not sure if you can skip this step)
  • Create an customer Account

ACTUAL RESULT

Result in an error!

I noticed that the fail2ban process has to be started if a new account is created.

Watch /var/log/system.log you can see this fault

This restart takes a very long time depending on the number of IPv6 addresses and blocked IPv4 addresses.

EXPECTED RESULT

The account should be created within a few seconds

ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Look at github:

The slow shutdown issue was fixed in #1588 for fail2ban 0.10 / 0.11.
