  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Custom nameservers requirements

Hello,

I can't seem to find a firm answer on my question. I am using a Plesk 9 VPS hosting only 2 domains. I currently have 2 IP addresses, each assigned as a dedicated IP to a domain (domain1.com, domain2.com).

I would like to use custom nameservers via Plesk for each domain (i.e. ns1/ns2.domain1.com and ns1/ns2.domain2.com). Can I get away with this setup with only 2 IP addresses in total, and again having each IP address dedicated to a domain?

If so, would the setup look like this?

IP1 - dedicated to domain1, used as ns1.domain1.com and ns2.domain2.com
IP2 - dedicated to domain2, used as ns1.domain2.com and ns1.domain1.com

Then as long as I set up the proper A and NS records under each domain/website's DNS records, might this work?

I have a feeling I might need 3, possibly 4 IP's in total to get this done, however. Any insight?

Ok. First of all.

You do not need more than 2 ip addresses.

and you can fake set both domains under these 2 addresses.

if we have ips 1 and 2 and you have 2 domains x and y. com

you can have ns1.x.com on ip 1 and ns2.x.com on ip 2.
Same with y.com...

and you can have as much as you want ...

You enter the ns servers on your registrar.

Then you create offcourse custom dns zones using plesk for each domain ....
Bind will reply as long as it has the zone. Bind is not bound to an ns. It will serve it.

The only problem is with the reverse dns record and the mailserver that you will need in 1 ip at least. You must choose which domain your mailserver you wish to use. And thus not because the mailservice wont work. Just because many meailservers check the mailservers reverse record to assume if you are a spammer or not.

Hope I helped you understand.

Regards
