Directory browsing (listing)

How do I allow directory browsing, meaning that if I want that in a browser the files in that folder are listed on the screen when I type http://www.mydomain.com/files/ ?

It is simple to do that in Ensim, but can not find the place where to do it in Plesk.

From within the Plesk control panel, there is no way. You would need to edit either the global httpd.conf, or the domain's httpd.include/vhost.conf/.htaccess file to add the Apache directive: Options Indexes (or +Indexes), and optionally: FollowSymLinks MultiViews directives, then restart apache service.

For more information, see the Apache docs at:

ShadowMan,

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, we have no knowledge to change anything in the Apache settings, but appreciate you took the time to respond. Strange however that such features are available in Ensim and not in Plesk. Maybe something for the developers for a future upgrade.

The only advice I can give you is - as a server admin, you should at least familiarize yourself with the use of SSH to login to the server as 'root' to be able to do certain administrative tasks, and you should have some basic knowledge about the OS and certain software packages (Apache, mySQL, PHP).

Basic editing of Apache files is not that difficult, kind of like using MSDos to edit a batch file.

I know other panels such as ensim and cPanel/WHM have many 'bells and whistles' for doing tweaks to the server, but Plesk is not currently up to that level of spit and polish. Maybe some day....
