DNS Service Mode and New Domain

I've set up a new domain in Plesk where I have several other domains [that I did not set up]. I've changed the DNS in godaddy [a week ago] and have setup the domain as the others on the server are setup. It's been over a week and i'm still getting a "can't find DNS server" error for the site. I've noticed differences in the dns setting for the other domains on the server: some have the dns switch 'on' and some are 'off.' some have toggled the 'service mode' and some have not. so i'm confused about how i should set this one up. I just switched the 'service mode' ... and maybe that's all that's needed but I have to wait so it can populate. In the meantime, I have 2 questions:

1. why is there a difference in how the domains are setup?
2. is there something else i should be checking/changing?
