Question Domain alias and DNS

Hi all,

I have a primary domain "a.com" on which I want to place an alias with a subdomain "cdn.a.com".
Usually, when the DNS for "a.com" is managed on the server, I know that you must first create the alias and then add the A zone to the DNS. If you do the opposite, the addition of the alias is rejected because the DNS entry is detected.

I have a problem with this case, however, because the entry to add to the DNS is not an A entry but a CNAME.
And now I'm stuck: I can't add the CNAME:cdn entry to "a.com".

I get the message:
Error: This record will conflict with the glue record for zone 'cdn.a.com'.

I don't understand, there are no other "cdn.a.com" entries.

If I delete the alias, I can enter the DNS CNAME entry, but then I can't add the alias again...

What should I do?

Erwan

Since your using a sub domain as an alias, the alias probably does not need it own zone. So what you could do is to disable the DNS for the alias in Plesk. Make sure you'll have dns synchronization turn off first, before you can disable the DNS completely for the alias. That way you can add the CNAME to the primary domain.
