• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

*.domain.com and subdomains

Hi.

I have a site set up to run on sjp.dk which has the domain alias sjp.as. 'sjp.as' works on www.sjp.as and sjp.as, but entering eg. mail.sjp.as or test.sjp.as will give the "default domain" for the server (a different site).

My question is: How do I make sjp.as work with "all subdomains"?

One catch is that "real" subdomains set up in Plesk needs to function, and setting this domain as the default domain is not an option (then I will just have the problem with the domain currently set as default domain).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You can add a wildcard entry in DNS such that all/any subdomains point to your main domain [or redirect to a directory based on the redirect scripts setup]

For the domain alias i have set up DNS to syncronize information. And then I have set up *.sjp.as. as an A record to the IP of the site (though this is a shared ip).

This is obviously not correct so can someone point me in the right direction?

You can try to create vhost.conf as it is described in http://kb.odin.com/en/5464
with a following content

ServerAlias *.sjp.as
and place it to /var/www/vhosts/<domain-name>/conf/

then /usr/local/admin/sbin/websrvmng -a -v
to apply the changes.

The only problem with the knowledgebase article you linked to is that it does not work for wildcard subdomains as requested by the OP

This is because of the httpd.conf naming system Plesk enforces - it places the main domain and wildcard above the mail services in the final order of things, causing a position where you can either have webmail and no wildcard subdomains, or wildcard subdomains and no webmail.

I've lost count of how many people have posted in these forums complaining or seeking advice about this, and to my knowledge, no patch has been released for it.

It's no wonder that most webmasters prefer cPanel when this happens with Plesk.
