  • Support for BIND DNS has been removed from Plesk for Windows due to security and maintenance risks.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS.

I tried to install the DotNetNuke build that comes with Plesk 8.1 for Windows. It returned the following error...

Microsoft SQL Server The connection to Microsoft SQL server is required for installing Microsoft DotNetNuke Connected Disabled by Key

First, why is it being forced to use MS SQL server? Second, what key is required to enable this so we don't have to grunt through making a Plesk friendly version ourselves that preferably would run on MySQL instead of MS SQL? Third, does this require a full blown install of MS SQL server on the server or can it be the "embedded" version?

Thanks for any help!

I would like to know about this, also.
Have been putting off a dedicated win box w/plesk until the update to DNN 4.5
This is a very good question !!!

Did you figure it out yet ?
Its been 5 days and no response

1. You need to purchase from SWSoft the addon that allows you to use and manage MSSQL databases within Plesk
2. DotNetNuke uses MSSQL and not MySQL so I cant see why you would be surprised it is "forcing" you to use MSSQL.
3. It will run happily with MSSQL Express
4. As of today, Plesk 8.1 for Win still uses DNN version 3.2 so it is practically worthless anyway.

Well, it's my understanding is that DNN can use a MySQL db server. This is based on research I did on the net. So yes, I'm a bit surprised. I'm also rather annoying that you have to pay $99 for a damn "add-on license" to be able to use something that's already on the system. And in the end it's just MSDE.

Someone did do a conversion but it was so long ago I wouldnt trust it, and its safe to say NONE of the current modules would work under it.

I do agree about the SWSoft charger though, it's daylight robbery.
