  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Question Enable 2FA on FTP

Thomas Oryon

Basic Pleskian
Hi

I would like to enable 2FA on FTP account in plesk. I have installed plesk in both windows and linux server. Could anyone please tell whether it is possible to enable 2FA on plesk FTP accounts?

Thanks.

2FA integration is not supported for FTP in Plesk. As far as I am aware, that's not very common for FTP in general. Would you mind sharing what exactly is the reason for seeking 2FA for FTP in particular? There might be an alternative way for achieving the end goal.

Hello,

We need it for the additional security and it is our requirement to enable the 2FA for FTP. Please let us know the alternative way to enable the 2FA for FTP in plesk.

Thanks

2FA is not part of the FTP protocol. It is not used along with FTP, FTPS or SFTP, but a proprietary solution of selected FTP servers like the "FileZilla Pro Enterprise Server". That is not a regular FTP server. A one-year single machine license of that server costs around 200 $ at this time. It would need to replace the existing FTP server that is delivered for free with your (free) operating system, normally ProFTPD. The requirement for 2FA for FTP is so rare that it will very likely be uneconomical for Plesk to provide full support for a commercial solution like the FileZilla Pro Enterprise Server. But if you feel that this is a feature that would improve Plesk, you could suggest it to Your Ideas for Plesk and let others vote for it. The features with many votes will be considered.

Interesting. I did not know that ProFTPD has this implemented. Have you tried to activate the module?

Hello

I have tried to install proftpd in the server and it is installed. When I check the status the command shows invalid. May I know the reason for this?

i am not sure how it is under rpm based os, but in debian the ftp service is managed via xinetd. so you may need to restart xinetd.
