FTP Accessibility issue with httpdocs for a domain

We have a domain that was created 2 months ago which is experiencing problems when a user tries to connect to it via FTP. Also, this is the only domain that is experiencing the issue. Up until recently, we could connect fine VIA ftp and open the httpdocs directory to upload files. In the past week or so, we were still able to connect via FTP (using FileZilla, CuteFTP, and Internet Explorer 6 and 7) but could no longer access the httpdocs directory and get a timeout error when we try. We can still access all of the other directories that are listed when we connect (httpsdocs, private, statistics, subdomains, etc.), we just cannot access httpdocs. We have checked the permission and limits and everything looks fine (also ran "Check Permissions" from the Plesk control panel on the domain. While troubleshooting the issue, we connected to the server via remote desktop and could manually access the httpdocs folder. We found that if we remove some files (about 8) from the httpdocs folder we could access it again via FTP, but if we moved a single file back into the folder we could not access again. This was repeated with different files (moved the files back into the folder and took different files out) and once again we were able to connect until we added a file back to the folder without removing another file. We have also tried removing the domain and recreating it in Plesk, but still have the same issue. One item of note is that connecting FTP via the command line interface in Windows was the only method that worked where we could access the httpdocs folder and make changes when all files are in the httpdocs folder.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided regarding this issue!

Hi

This is caused by firewall not allowing the data port to which server ask ftp client to connect. Usually this happens in passive mode ftp. This problem occures, when you have long file or folder list in httpdocs folder. To suggest solution, provide more information like which ftp client you use to connect and which is the firewall you configured in server. I had this problem in my server and I resolved it.

Check from filezilla and paste the complete error log here..

Sorry to dig out an old thread.

We identified the issue to be with firewall timing out FTP connection when number of files in folders exceeded, and not related to file name

Thanks
