We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.
As I said in another thread I think the reason behind it is that they dropped the old psadump/psarestore backup system and built it around Plesk Migration Manager engine as it's much more efficient, and doesn't involve downtime whilst the backups run. I think due to lack of time they didn't get around to adding this feature back again. I've contacted them and I'm sure it'll be added back again.
I don't understand why people bother with FTP backups and why hosting providers even provide FTP backup space. RSYNC is far more superior to FTP in every single way. If anything SWSoft should add it should be automated RSYNC backups.
1and1 has offsite FTP backups as a selling point. It's nice to have the option to move files offsite as well. I don't think RSYNC is bad and may even be superior to FTP but it's not a good reason to remove a feature many people have come to depend on.
We use 1&1 and we used to backup single domain to this FTP server as well as a complete backup.
If I screw a single domain up, I want to restore just that and not perform a whole server restore or mess about selecting which files to restore. The FTP offsite domain backup was perfect for that.
I couldn't agree more... We have been usiing the FTP backup feature as an add-on for our customers, and now it is gone. We also use some 1&1 servers and it has always been one of the features we were happiest about.
Like Cranky, I too have talked to Plesk and they are currently working (so they say) on bringing back the FTP backup option.
(Still waiting for them to integrate Acronis though....)
