Full Hostname, What should it be?

What exactly is the purpose of 'Full Hostname' and what's the correct way of specifying the hostname?

Hostname! I have no idea what it's purpose is and what it does.

A server hostname is the name of the server. i.e. server1.host.com. Each server will have a different hostname. This is used to identify the server for all outgoing mail and other things that require a servername. This is a basic server requirement to have a hostname.

I've noticed I named my hostname mydomain.com instead of srv1.mydomain.com. Will this create any problem?

here's how things are setup:

my main domain is: mydomain.com
my Full Hostname is: mydomain.com
my primary dns is: ns1.mydomain.com
my secondary dns is: ns2.mydomain.com
