• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Full system restore with Rsync - Plesk restore safe?

Would like to know what are the dangers of backing up and restoring full entire system backups (with plesk installed) to another server with a different ip address? Will the restored plesk setup operate properly and offer an ip address change in the system, or will there be any pre-requisites required such as manual ip changing within the system core files?

Hello,
By default Plesk encrypts backup with server secret key. This key is unique for each Plesk server. So if you will try to restore this backup on other server you will loose all encrypted data. For example all passwords.
Since Plesk 12.5 you can encrypt backup with password instead of secret key.
If you want to transfer your data from one Plesk server to another the best way is migration.
You can use Migration Guide for you reference.
All information about backup and restoration process you can find in Plesk Administrator's Guide.
