Help with new users...

I just transfered to a new host and they use plesk and I am a bit confused on a few things.

I want to host a few customers websites so I figure I would "add new client" but after reading through some of the help documention it suggestions that new clients are to be created if the intention is for them to resell resources on account.

When I want to add a new domain on my host do I just goto "add domain" and chose my default self as client?

And also trying to add an additional FTP user seems like a headache and a half, I cannot find where to do that either and searching the help docs do not help. I see you can add "web user" but that only adds permission to the newly created web user directory ONLY.

I understand when you create a new domain it adds the ftp user but what about the additional ones with access to only certain directories?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Easy one first -- you can only have one FTP username per domain name (if you ignore web users).

Secondly: You would usually add a Client (in the client's name) then add a domain to it. The client can then login to Plesk via the client username and do whatever they need to do. They can have multiple domains under the same client login if you so desire.

You could do things differently if you wanted to of course, like add all your domains to your own client account. But then the client could not login and add email accounts and so on. There is also a "domain owner" login but you know I've been using Plesk for 5 years and I've never seen the point of it :)

Hey thanks much for clearing that up, i was getting confused. When you say domain owner are you referring to the "domain administrator" account?

I can't believe there isn't another way to add FTP users, that really is frustrating in comparison to how cpanel does it.

One more question for you. I created a web user for my client so he can upload images and such however when I login with the main client ftp account it says I do not have permission to access it the directory. I know I can just login using the webuser's info but is there a way for me to give permission to the main account?

Yes, that is correct.

Well, there is a kind of work-around - Plesk itself doesn't provide a solution here. You can add more ftp users on system level, though.

This is already a feature-request (for years, of course).

Maybe this is possible using chmod via FTP. As I don't need Webuser features I haven't tested this right now, sorry. Try it via CHMOD, maybe it helps.
