High server loads - HTTPD, how to fix?

Hi,

I'm running a hosting server with PLESK 7.5.2 Reloaded / FreeBSD 5.3. I'm hosting about 175 domains on this server.

The problem is that every day the serverload gets higer and higer like this:

up 1 day, 31 mins, 1 user, load averages: 70.02, 61.46, 36.69

When I look in to TOP I see VERY and VERY much proccesses of HTTPD.

When I do killall -9 httpd and restart it everything is fine and the load turns back to 0.10...

Checked some log files like the apache access_log but i'm seeing nothing strange... Only webmail that was openend last (horde/imp).

Can someone give me some tips to check or a fix? :)

Thank you guys.

There seems to be alot of problems with KeepAlive settings. You should check /var/log/messages(linux), and also look into preformance tuning for apache.

I've checked the messages log also this morning when the load was so high but nothing strange.

Going to check to tune my apache now ;).

Same problem on FC2. It didn't look to be a tuning problem but it's really annoying to have any solution...

Regards,

Kilgore
