Question How long will Plesk updates be available for CentOS7?

nmdpa3

Basic Pleskian
Server operating system version
CentOS7
Plesk version and microupdate number
18.0.60
How much longer (following EOL of CentOS7) will Plesk continue to providing Plesk updates for CentOS7. Trying to figure out how much time we have for a few servers that are still on CentOS7.

Plesk does not support EOL operating systems. Unofficially, when CentOS 8 was EOL, Plesk continued support for a few weeks, but I'd not bet on it. EOL of CentOS 7 has been anticipated for years and it should be top priority for all CentOS 7 users to upgrade to Alma 8 now. There is no reason why anyone should wait.

For anyone that may have not see this:

Introducing Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS). We understand that migrating to a new operating system can be a complex process. To give you more time and a peace of mind, we’re introducing the Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) program. This program will run:
  • CentOS 7 & CloudLinux 7 – until January 1, 2026 (vendor EOL date - June 2, 2024)
  • Ubuntu 18.04 & Debian 10 – until July 1, 2025 (vendor EOL dates - September 2024 for Ubuntu 18.04, June 2, 2024 for Debian 10)
Plesk will continue releasing updates and providing technical support for these OSes beyond the vendor EOL dates, until the dates specified. Supporting EOL OSes incurs additional development and maintenance costs, and so taking advantage of this offer will cost extra. We strongly recommend migrating or dist-upgrading to supported OSes.

Hi,

Very interesting information,

Does it mean that by default Plesk still provides updates for these OSes ?
Or do we need to take some action or subscribe somewhere to enable it ?
(I've a doubt reading this : "so taking advantage of this offer will cost extra")

More informations seen on Plesk lifecycle policy webpage ( Plesk Lifecycle Policy ) :

"The Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) program is available for CentOS 7, CloudLinux 7, Ubuntu 18.04, and Debian 10. The ELS program provides qualifying servers access to Plesk support and full-scope product updates. This program also includes TuxCare to provide security patches. Please note that TuxCare is not available for Debian 10 systems.

"

But nothing found about how to enable this support (if we have to do so...)

More information is soon to follow on the Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) program. I'll update this thread as soon as more information will be come available.

Hi, thanks for these informations.

I have a question about our particular case :
We do not own our server Plesk licences directly, but the hosting company where we rent our servers does (OVH or Ionos).
In that case, is the ELS program compatible ? Is there a solution to opt-in or is it at the hosting company appreciation ?

Hi,
I got ELS is automatically offered but broken the deployment of tomcat 7 , I had to revert all .
I think update all in once is too much , glibc , kernel , systemd , python, php , java and tomcat [1]

I'm just reporting to help the others , I bet the problem is on java or on tomcat , where I should search for more information ?

the error was :
Aug 02 05:02:51 Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: The archive [jar:file:/var/lib/tomcats/java8/webapps/xxxxxxx.war!/] is malformed and will be ignored: an entry contains an illegal path [META-INF/MANIFEST.MF] which was not expanded to [/var/lib/tomcats/java8/webapps/xxxxxx/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF] since that is outside of the defined docBase [/var/lib/tomcats/java8/webapps/xxxxx:]

Best regards,
