How to add new apps to ApplicationVault

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do I add a new or updated application to the ApplicationVault?

I have looked in the documentation and browsed through these threads but since I am a marketing person and not a programmer or network admin specialist I try to do everything from the control panel. And after having my server down for a few days with a 8.1 upgrade problem I am reluctant to do things that may crash the server again.

When I go into control panel and click on Add new site application package, it indicates (*.deb, *.sh) as the file types for the new application.

I appears that the application I want to add is phpWebSite 1.0.0 is only available in TGZ format. The online Plesk Users Guide indicates... Click Browse and locate your application in an RPM package or shell installation script format, then click OK.

This seems to make sense since the Plesk control panel and the application somehow need to be integrated to each other so that Plesk can pass domain and user information as well as database information into the application's configuration file.

My question is: How do I get phpWebSite 1.0.0.TGZ extracted in a windows environment and reconfigured with all the right parameters to work with Plesk 8.1 control panel running under Debian.

Perhaps there should be some type of control panel function to take a standard Nix application file and add the Plesk/server specific information to the application's config file that the application needs. Since this probably does not exist, how do I do it manually? Where do I find the specific information about my server environment, as what both Plesk and the application needs.

I would sort of think that the whole purpose of the Plesk control panel is to make it easier for non-technical people to maintain their environment and lessen the possibility of trashing a working server. And this 'How Do I' Questions section seems the place to get specific information the Plesk Documentation lacks or is unclear about.

I am hoping that some knowledgeable person reading this post will provide me with the answers I need so that I don't have to bother tech support when they have more serious matters to attend to... Like fixing some of the 8.1 upgrade bugs and the OBNOXIOUS Plesk SPAM.

Answering stupid questions like mine would be beneficial to SWsoft's credibility and customer relations problems. After all, where else can I expect to get accurate advice and support for this product.

Please help. I don't want to waste my time with an install of the old version of phpWebSite and I don't want to experiment and risk trashing a production server.

Thanks in advance for your timely assistance in helping me resolve this matter. I am sure others can also benefit from this information...

Thanks again.
