  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Question How to remove trial license so I can activate a paid license?

King555

Regular Pleskian
Server operating system version
Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
Plesk version and microupdate number
Plesk Obsidian 18.0.66 Update #1 Web Admin Edition
I want to buy a paid Plesk license from the provider "Hetzner", but it's not possible, because an error message says I already have a license. This is true, because I have a trial license. How can I remove that license? It's valid for another 77 days, but I need to buy the new license before January 15th. What is the workflow here?

Installing a new key should just overwrite the existing key, at least that's how I've done it in the past and even as current as about 4 months ago. Did the provider provided you with an activation code or just a key? If you're still having issues with activating with the activation code, you should be reaching out to the provider where you bought the key from (in this case, Hetzner) since they'll be the ones who can confirm activation status and help with getting it activated.

Unfortunately the ordering system of my provider is somehow connected to the Plesk company, so I do not get a key file or activation code, but the license is "injected" to my server. And this fails, because there is already a license. I now contacted Hetzner. I thought there might be a way to remove the license, but maybe they have to do something in their systems.

Assuming this was manually deployed and not a prebuilt image with Plesk preinstalled they should still be providing you with an activation code that links to their key management service and thus would still overwrite the existing key (the trail in this case). It's also possible that you are not in a trail any more and probably still fully activated. In either case, you're better off reaching out to them for assistance since only they will be able to help with making sure you are fully activated.

Yes, it was manually deployed. And I'm definitely still in the trial period. I hope they can do something.

My provider replied: "This license is from a different provider unfortunately and we can not cancel it. As long as the license exists for the IP, then we can not create a new one.".

I will now contact Plesk and hopefully they can cancel my trial.

It's somehow funny, because in the first place I only got a very limited trial with a short duration and now I have a 90-day trial (when it started) with all features, which cannot be removed.

The Plesk support was very fast and they removed the IP binding from the migration (trial) license and after that I could order the commercial license.

Finally I'm allowed to pay. ;)

Topic solved.
