Image spam

I was wondering has there been any useful server side tools to block images spam. if you have no idea what image spam is.. http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid14_gci1210679,00.html

I was hoping that someone is currently using something that isnt heavy on system resouce.
