Login error - any clues?

After entering a valid user/password combination the login page displays a dialog box that says "Unable to exec utility packagemng: Empty error message from utility."

I cannot find any reference to the utility specified (packagemng) so I am wondering if anyone has a clue as to what this error represents. Any insight is most appreciated!

packagemng is one of the command line utilities in admin/bin that plesk control panel uses. you can get more info of each by typing: <programname> --help
