Question Memory overload - how to identify process

Hi fellas,
its happen frequently, my server RAM become overload and ningx and apache crash, websites going down.

top, free -m, none of these commands show me what is happen, or what process is doing this overload.

could you share with me an step by step to check memory issue?

You probably have to record your resources usage over some time to find the cuprit.

Hello hardbrasil,

Typically, if memory is overused, OOM killer kills a process to free memory. OOM killer writes diagnostic information (why exactly this process was chosen) to log file. If it your case, I hope this link can help you: Debug out-of-memory with /var/log/messages
