Question Migration paths

Hello,

First of all: Congratulations on the release of this extension! We have really been waiting for a suitable multi-server solution, so I am looking forward to testing this. However, as of right now, the extension seems to be lacking a few features which are important to us, namely:

- Centralized DNS
- Centralized mail

I see that these are on the roadmap, and have a few questions in that regards:

- Centralized DNS:
Let's say we do a fresh installation of Plesk today and start putting customers on it (no multi-server extension at this time). In addition, we add the slave DNS extension. Will it be easy (read: Automated) to move from this setup to the centralized DNS that will be implemented in the multi-server extension?

- Centralized mail:
The question is similar: Let's say we set up a Plesk single server today. When centralized mail comes out, will it be easy to move the mail portion of this installation off to its separate server?

- The above scenario considers a single server only. Will merging multiple Plesk servers onto a combined multi-server setup be possible without complications (will you provide the tools for this)?

- Do you have an ETA for updates 1, 2, 3?

Since PPA has fallen by the wayside, we're looking for a way to centralise the management of our Plesk servers.

Would it be also possible to answer if this will be a subscription based extension when finally released and if there are any plans to eventually allow the centralisation of Windows and Linux control panels?

@BjornO, thank you for the questions.

In general, it will be possible to do via Plesk migration, which means transfer from one server to others. If you expect some in-place migration, we are considering now attaching of existing server.

- Centralized DNS:

It should be covered by support of two features: 1) Centralized DNS; 2) Attaching of existing Plesk server as Service Node.

The question is similar: Let's say we set up a Plesk single server today. When centralized mail comes out, will it be easy to move the mail portion of this installation off to its separate server?

Regarding mail, it's a good question. We need to think how we can handle mail in case of attaching of existing Plesk server.

- Do you have an ETA for updates 1, 2, 3?

Update 1 will be shipped by 2016. Currently, we are going to do shipment every 1-1.5 months.

PPA is owned by Odin now, so Plesk Multi Server is a new product developed by Plesk team.

Not sure that got your question properly, but the extension enables Plesk instances attaching as service node, and brings centralized mangement of customer accounts and subscriptions.

Regarding mail, it's a good question. We need to think how we can handle mail in case of attaching of existing Plesk server.

That's pretty important to us, if you are not able to deliver all the features at this time. For example, if we put users onto new Onyx Multi Server machines now, then we must be able to move their mail accounts to the centralized mail server at a later time, without putting the clients through the disruption of another complete move to a clean server.

Further, as a cross platform host, we'd want the centralized server to be SmarterMail. rather than Postfix/Horde.

At this current moment in time, the documentation states all nodes must be running the same OS. Will it eventually manage Windows and Linux servers from the same location?

The extension can also be paid for if you follow the link next to it inside Plesk, so will there be a monthly cost for the extension?
