• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

Issue Migration vs Backup-Restore on Plesk Onyx (WordPress, Linux)

prayudi

New Pleskian
Good day.

I am currently running a Plesk WordPress edition on a Linux server.
We need to perform migration to a new server and found this article:

Transferring Data Between Plesk Servers

We have gone through the documentation and found out that it's not possible for us to run migration due to several restrictions (firewalls, SSH access) in our environment, so we are going to go with backup-restore.

The questions are:
1. Is there any difference of results between Migration and Backup-Restore?
2. What are the weakness of using Backup-Restore method?

We are asking these questions since in the documentation (linked above), it is stated that Migration is recommended.

Thank you!

Do we have any answer about this?
1. Is there any difference of results between Migration by Plesk Migrator and Backup-Restore?
2. What are the weakness of using Backup-Restore method?
3. Can i use both ways for second or more times to update the destination server? Is the data being overlapped each time or can duplicates be created?

Thank you.
