Missing www prefix in domain template

Hi, am I missing a point or is there no www prefix enabling option in domain template creation page.
I have created a domain using a domain template and noticed that site is not accessible with www prefix.And it looks like once you create the domain, you can't enable/disable www prefix, adding a cname record for the prefix did not work for me.Is it an issue, or am I missing something?

Adding a cname record is the right solution. If the cname is resolving correctly after adding; the issue can be because of
missing host headers in IIS
