• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

New to Plesk - Initial Configuration: Hostname + Nameservers

Hello All,

I've recently purchased a CentOS VPS which came with Plesk. The provider has given me 1 IP address thus far (expecting another shortly).

I've been reading through the Plesk documentation but I'm a little confused what to do here as it is a bit different to how DirectAdmin and Cpanel (the previous 2 CP's I've used) handle DNS set up.

Basically, upon logging in to Plesk for the first time it asked me to set a hostname which I have done (e.g. host.domain.com).

From here I am stumped as to what I need to do next in regard to DNS configuration.

First place I headed to was DNS Settings option which at the moment just shows:

Host Record type Value
<domain>. NS ns.<domain>.
<domain>. A <ip>
<domain>. MX (10) mail.<domain>.
<domain>. TXT v=spf1 +a +mx -all
<ip> / 24 PTR <domain>.
ftp.<domain>. CNAME <domain>.
mail.<domain>. A <ip>
ns.<domain>. A <ip>
webmail.<domain>. A <ip>

I simply want to set up my hostname correctly and I want my hostname to be used as my nameservers (e.g. ns1.domain.com / ns2.domain.com) - So I can start pointing domain names at the server (I know how to configure domains at my registar but that will of course do nothing at the moment if the server isn't configured to accept them).

If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide on what I need to change above or if someone would be kind enough to explain to me what I need to change above, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Seems you have not read Plesk documentation carefully. Mantioned by you settings is DNS zone template for each new created domains on your Plesk server. Your Plesk server hostname should be resolved to IP provided to you and by default it will be your Plesk nameserver for all new created domains. I can suggest you read this doc again and try to create and configure domains after that. Update thread if you still have any troubles with it.
