Input New UserVoice request to create a temporary admin account in WordPress via WordPress Toolkit

Hi all,

I’ve submitted a new UserVoice request that could make it easier for Plesk server admins to help clients with their WordPress sites. The idea is to allow server admins to create a temporary admin account in the WordPress Toolkit, enabling you to log in to a client’s WordPress site without needing permanent access. This would be especially useful when clients ask for assistance.

Plesk already has something similar for their own support team, where a temporary account can be activated to provide access. This request extends that concept to WordPress sites.

Once a website is added to WordPress toolkit, you can define a user that can be used by the login feature. Why not set that in Plesk and use it every time instead of creating a temporary account? The feature is accessible only to the admin user, reseller or customer accounts in Plesk. Webspace/Subscription users should also be able to use it if they are in the webmaster group.

That's actually a brilliant suggestion Maarten! Getting temporarily (admin) access to a Wordpress site from an (hosting) customer in order to help them
has always been a bit of a cumbersome process. Which involves either:

• the customer creating an admin account for you (but too often they don't know how),
• you customer sharing their password with you (which is no good for obvious reasons),
• temporarily replacing the password in the DB (cumbersome)
• manually create an admin account (cumbersome)

Having an option to create a temporarily admin account would be a great way to speed up the support process and help our customers with their WP sites.

Exactly! I've encountered the same frustrations so many times—fiddling around with customer credentials or adding a new admin account via phpMyAdmin can be quite cumbersome. Having a built-in option to create a temporary admin account would really streamline the support process.

It would also allow end users to initiate this process themselves, and they would receive a notification whenever an account is created, ensuring transparency throughout the procedure. This way, we can assist customers with their WordPress sites efficiently while keeping everything clear and secure.
