I've been unable to upgrade my 8.0.x Plesk to any newer version. This is the error I get when I attempt an upgrade to 9.0:

We requested that PHP be updated to the 5.x level because our sites use features that require that. However, the hosting company now ask that we pay them to manually upgrade to a newer version of Plesk, since the automated method does not work in this situation.

Suggestions on how I should proceed?

Can I just down the sites early in the morning, remove PHP, run the upgrade, and then put the desired version of PHP back?
