php5 Upgrade for Plesk 8.3 os_RedHat el4

FuzzyJared

New Pleskian
I have a VPS that is running Plesk 8.3 with os_RedHat el4. The hosting company stated that they could upgrade PHP 4.3.9 to the PHP 5.2 for a fee, but stated that they could not gaurantee that this would not break Plesk.

Anyone have any advice on this? Is there any easy way to perform the upgrade myself? I am a fairly seasoned web developer, but don't have my chops with server management.

Help and suggestions appreciated.

4->5 php upgrade cxan be really painful. a special component, psa-phpX-configurator is required for this. X stands for 4 or 5 correspondingly. Actually if you have this package installed (without forcing) after php update - 80% of the upgrade business is done. rest 20 are for minor configuration issues on domains.
