  • Support for BIND DNS has been removed from Plesk for Windows due to security and maintenance risks.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS.

Plesk 8.1 for FreeBSD uses Ports. This breaks previous version's websites.

Previously, Plesk8.01 for FreeBSD stored user's data in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts.

The new location for Plesk8.1 appears to be /usr/local/www/vhosts.

How do I migrate users from another computer running Plesk 8.01 to the new Plesk 8.1 server without breaking their apps (which have hard references to their home directories)?

Am I missing something here?

Yes, you are right and default location have been changed to /usr/local/www/vhosts in new 8.1 version. Actually, for sites migration you can use Plesk Migration Manager and it should migrate all data properly. The only thing which can be affected after migration is user's scripts, where direct paths are persist.
Actually, in Plesk there is special utility which can transfer vhosts content to new place '/usr/local/psa/bin/transvhosts.pl', but in current Plesk 8.1 build there is a problem exist with this utility, which as I know, should be fixed in 8.1.1 patch. So it is better not to use this utility now. After patch will be released you can use this utility for transferring virtual hosts on your server. As for now you can use PMM, if it will not affect any customer's scripts.

Is it possible to use the Expand migration tools?

At some point we want to install Expand and now looks like as good a time as any as this should enable us to migrate from Plesk to Plesk AND get these users under Expand at the same time.
That possible?

When is 8.1.1 available?
