Problems with smtp_auth

Hi,
today my mailserver somehow was mixed up. After fixing the main flaws (some permission stuff) I couldn't send any emails any more.
When I try to send an email with Outlook or Mail (Mac) my passwords isn't recognized.

In the /var/log/message I always get

smtp_auth: SMTP connect from unknown@###### [##.##.##.##]
smtp_auth: smtp_auth: exit 2 at point x

Does anyone has a solution for that? I found a thread speaking about the problems I had, but that guy never got an anwser on the first question (or am I wrong here?)
