Issue Problems with Update and Upgrade

LaMa5

New Pleskian
Hi,

I have upgraded my plesk 12.5 to 17.0.17 some weeks ago. After upgrade all went ok, but since some days, I have two problems with my onyx installation (and I think both problems ar similar).

1) Every night I get an mail, that automatic updates failed. I tryed to update manually, but get the same result: update failed! I found only one warning in the logfile:

Details: Warnung! Prüfung des Hostnamens fehlgeschlagen: Can't bind to socket: Invalid argument
(hostname='plesk.serviceteam-md.de', ip=ff02::2)

2) I could not add or remove additional components. Here I get the following message:

Error: Während der POST-Installation ist ein Fehler aufgetreten (siehe Protokoll für Einzelheiten).
Warnung! Es wurden nicht alle Pakete installiert.
Bitte prüfen Sie, ob Ihre Systemdienste betriebsbereit sind.
Bitte beheben Sie dieses Problem und versuchen Sie, die Pakete erneut zu installieren.

I have searched the web, but could not find anything thats affect my problem. Meanwhile I have no more idea where I found any notes, and I hope that anybody here can help me. Thanks in advance.

bye ...
LaMa5.

Some more information about my server:
- OS: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS‬ (all OS Updates are installed)
- Product: Plesk Onyx, Version 17.0.17 Update #21

Hi LaMa5,

pls. post the complete output of the following command ( logged in as user "root" over SSH ) for further investigations:
Code:
apt-get -f install

... and use as well the command:
Code:
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --reinstall-patch --install-component base
to update/upgrade your Plesk Control Panel over the command line.

Hi LaMa5,

0 aktualisiert, 0 neu installiert, 0 zu entfernen und 1 nicht aktualisiert.
to solve THIS issue you should consider to use the example command ( logged in as user "root" over SSH ):
Code:
aptitude upgrade

To remove packages, which you don't need anymore, you might consider to use the example command ( logged in as user "root" over SSH ):
Code:
apt-get autoremove

Now I have a new problem when I try to add/remove components (see attached image)

Thers is an Update for "Let's Encrypt" available, and when I start the update, the error message is similar above.

Pls. keep in mind, that you should consider to open ONE thread for EACH of your issues/errors/problems, if they are not related to the thread title and the initial post of a thread. ;)
I know. This new error is the result of the update/upgrade of the Plesk Control Panel over the command line. Also this is relevant, I think. ;-)
After reboot the server, this error has cleared and the available/installed components are shown again.

Hi LaMa5,

pls. consider to use the Plesk Repair Utility, due to the fact that you seem to have unfinished update/upgrade/patch processes in the past.

Code:
plesk repair installation -y -v

plresk repair all -y -v

If you experience issues, when using the Plesk Repair Utility, pls. keep in mind, that there is ALWAYS a corresponding log - file for each repair and installation - process, which might help to investigate ( possible ) issues/errors/problems. Pls. check the logs at "/var/log/plesk" and "/var/log/plesk/install", if you continue to have issues/errors/problems after using the Plesk Repair Utility and consider to add them as attachments, so that people willing to help you have something to start with further investigations.

Hi LaMa5,

as you can see in your logs, you have an unfinished update/upgrade and therefore "apt-get" or "aptitude" are not able to use the correct packages for Plesk 17.0.17, as you can see for example at:
Code:
ERROR:Command '['/usr/bin/aptitude', 'download', 'psa-ingo=3.2.11-ubuntu14.04.build1700161026.19']' returned non-zero exit status 255

ERROR:Command '['/usr/bin/aptitude', 'download', 'psa-horde=5.2.11-ubuntu14.04.build1700161026.19']' returned non-zero exit status 255

Pls. consider to use the example sources.list at => #9 ( these are examples for Ubuntu 14.04 and Plesk Onyx 17.0 ), followed by
Code:
apt-get clean
apt-get update
aptitude upgrade
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --reinstall-patch --install-component base

In addition, please REPAIR again afterwards with the Plesk Repair Utility, using again the commands:
Code:
plesk repair installation -y -v

and

plesk repair all -y -v

Please report back with the NEW log - files, just as you did in your previous post.

Hi UFHH01,

I will try it tomorrow and report again.
Many thanks for your assistance.

Hi LaMa5,

pls fix your permissions with:
Code:
plesk repair fs -y -v

Pls. provide more informations as for example the output of
Code:
ls -lah /opt/psa/admin/plib/Repair/Dns.php
Code:
dpkg -l | grep '^ii' | grep psa

and

dpkg -l | grep '^ii' | grep plesk

... and pls. describe again the steps and errors to reproduce your actual issue:
Updates/Upgrades and Add/Remove of components are still _not_ possible.

Hi UFHH01,

pls fix your permissions with:
I fixed the suspicious permissions.

The output of "dpkg -l | grep '^ii' | grep psa" and "dpkg -l | grep '^ii' | grep plesk" was too long for this post. See attached file dpkg.txt

and pls. describe again the steps and errors to reproduce your actual issue:
Problem 1:
I get every night a system message that the autoupdated failed. If i try to install the update manually I get an error.

Screenshot_plesk_2.png
See also Logfile "20170407_2134_parallels-installation-log.txt"

Problem 2:
If I want to add an additional component, like git, I get the same error.

Screenshot_plesk_3.png
See also Logfile "20170407_2249_parallels-installation-log.txt"

I think both problems have the same reason. If you have any further questions, I will try to response shortly.

Hi LaMa5,

I assume, that the current Plesk Let's Encrypt Extension is the culprit here, in combination with an unfinished Plesk Git Extension - installation.

I would suggest to remove Let's Encrypt ( temporarily ), by using the commands
( Attention! You might experience issues now, that necessary webserver - configuration files could not be generated... pls. ignore that for a moment! You will install Let's Encrypt later again and will as well re-copy the previous certs where they belong to! ):
Code:
mkdir -p /root/backups/letsencrypt
cp -avr /usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/etc /root/backups/letsencrypt
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --remove-component letsencrypt

Afterwards, pls. de-install possible other ( unfinished ) package - installation ( as seen in the logs! ):
Code:
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --remove-component git

Now let's use the Plesk Repair Utility again and force as well another "upgrade-installed-components" - process, followed by another "update/patch" installer process :
Code:
plesk repair installation -y -v

plesk repair all -y -v

plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --upgrade-installed-components

plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --reinstall-patch --install-component base

You may now try another "normal" git - installation, over your Plesk Control Panel ( "HOME > Updates and Upgrades" just as within your screenshots, pls.! ).
If this didn't already worked as expected now, pls. use the command:
Code:
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --install-component git
... and report again with the corresponding logs, so that we are able to do another investigation.

Let's assume the best and all went fine now, you should now be able to install again the Plesk Let's Encrypt Extension with the commands:
Code:
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --install-component letsencrypt
mkdir -p /usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/etc
cp -avr /root/backups/letsencrypt /usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/etc
/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all
All went fine? Pls. remove the backup - directory and it's content with:
Code:
rm -rf /root/backups/letsencrypt

Hi UFHH01,

I am despairing , but in the right order.

- I did backup of Letsencrypt data
- then removed letsencrypt packages, there was an error like shown on screenshots in post #12, that an installation(!) not possible
- then removed git (but there was nothing to do)
- ok next step: repair (there now only two errors)
Code:
root@plesk:/var/log/plesk/install# plesk repair all -y -v

- next reinstallaing the patches went ok

The changes were applied successfully

- then I tryed the "normal" installation with the same result as shown in screenshot in post #12
- the manual installation failed with the same error message

- next point is to reinstall letsencrypt
- I tryed it the normal way (gui) -> failed
- then as you described -> failed

- last I installed it at "extensions management", and it seem's to be ok (next I will try to generate a certificate)
- last point, restore the backup and reconfigure all

The one and only problem -> it has nothing changed. (that's not fully correct, some errors like suspicious permissions and so on are solved)

Meanwhile I think the fastest way to solve this problems, is a fresh installation on a new server and restoring a full backup. On this occasion I could upgrade to ubuntu 16.04. But the change of round about 70 DNS records, and the downtime of several hours stop me so far.

If you have any further ideas, I will try it, but at the moment I am very despairing.

Hi LaMa5,

before you head over to re-install, consider to remove ALL additional Plesk components and extensions and pls. report what's documented in your installer.log, if you then try to re-install this or that ( one-by-one ). I recommend the command line installation, starting with the command:

plesk installer

Hi UFHH01,

now I'm completely confused. Last night there was no mail that autoinstaller failed and after login, a update was executed (Update 21 -> 22).

Adding/removing of components is still not possible (see also #12).

Also I tryed to uninstall some components, first the not important ones. But I have great doubt that later reinstalling will work. So I tested to reinstall and it failed. Because this server handles the web and mail traffic of round about 20 customers, I can't risk to break down this machine. At the moment the server has the actual updates of plesk and ubuntu, and all strongly needed components are installed.

In the next week I'm testing to restore the backup on a new server, so I plan to completely move at easter weekend. After this we can test uninstall of all compontents (or anything else) without any risks. I'm very interested to resolve such problems for future purposes.

bye ...
LaMa5.
