Protected directory with FTP account.

I would like to have a directory/folder which has a FTP-account directly to it.
I'm gonna use for my clients, so we can exchange files etc. in a single folder on the server.

I have tried several solutions, but they all involved either creating a new domain, new subdomain etc. and not just a FTP account pointing to a folder.

Any ideas?
