• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

I need to make reverse dns work for our network using Plesk and we have a /20 assigned to us. But that option is not presented when trying to do this for our space. So I assume that I have to do a /24 for each of those? Also, if I have a customer that hosts their own server and we need to reference that, say a /29, I don't see a way to do that either. If that address space falls within a /24 that would normally be our domain name, how do I do that?

Typically reverse dns is managed by the owner of the ip space, not who its leased to - so you may need to get your provider involved to get that done for you.

Sorry, should have explained. We are the ISP and own the IP space.

for us we contact our ISP (internap etc) and they do it for us. Have you tried contacting YOUR isp?

I think everybody is suggesting you contact the organisation that assigned you your /20, as they will normally be responsible for the rDNS for the IPs.

If you have directly obtained your /20 from RIPE/ARIN/whatever then it is a different story -- but in that case I don't see why you'd be wanting to use Plesk for manage rdns? Seem like the wrong tool for the job to me.

Alternatively, if you have not obtained your /20 from RIPE/ARIN/whatever but the organisation you obtained it from has delegated rdns control to you, then....well, again, is Plesk really the best option here? A pair of dedicated dns boxes would seem more appropriate?

Sorry if none of this is appropriate to you or if I've misunderstood your question.

Guess I should have said it that way. Our /20 is assigned to us by ARIN (recently). Our DNS servers are currently hosted off site as well as a couple of other servers. Plesk is the tool they provide. So that is why I am in this situation. May move all that back local sometime in the future. Anyway, that is the reason I am asking.

Thanks,

tk

Ah. I see. All makes sense then...apart from using Plesk for this task :)

My only suggestion would be to find a way not to use Plesk for this, but I know that isn't helpful to you :)

Hopefully someone with more knowledge in this area will come along and add something useful.

Faris.
